A Field Guide to 5 Horror Movie Icons

Every horror fan has a favorite villain — the one whose mask, mantra, or kill count they can recite on command. But how well do you actually know the icons behind the movies? Here's a field guide to five of horror's most enduring figures, and where to find them across our apparel and poster collections.

Jason Voorhees — Friday the 13th

Camp Crystal Lake's most notorious counselor-in-chief. Jason's hockey mask didn't even show up until the third film, but it became one of the most recognizable images in horror almost overnight. He doesn't talk, doesn't stop, and somehow keeps coming back no matter how many times the franchise tries to end him. Find him on our tumblers and a full lineup of graphic tees.

Freddy Krueger — A Nightmare on Elm Street

The one villain who can get you even when you're safely locked inside your own house — because he's waiting in your dreams. Freddy's burned face, bladed glove, and dark sense of humor made him horror's first true wisecracking killer. He's a mainstay across our tee lineup, usually paired with the line that made him famous: "sweet dreams."

Michael Myers — Halloween

Where Jason is relentless and Freddy is chatty, Michael Myers is silence itself. The blank white mask and the slow, unhurried walk are what make him unsettling — he never has to run, because he already knows you can't get away. Michael is the reason "the shape" became shorthand for pure, motiveless dread.

Ghostface — Scream

Horror's most self-aware killer, Ghostface turned the genre's own rules into the plot. That robe-and-mask combo — cheap enough to buy at any costume shop — is exactly why it's so effective: it could be anyone. It's also why it remains one of the most requested graphics in our clothing collection.

Pennywise — IT

Proof that clowns didn't need any help being terrifying, Pennywise turned a kid's balloon into a warning sign. Equal parts carnival and nightmare, he's become the go-to icon for horror fans who like their dread a little more theatrical — check him out on our poster wall art.
